About Davos

About Davos – A Unique Home for Science, Health, and Innovation
Nestled in the Swiss Alps at 1,560 meters above sea level, Davos is the highest city in Europe – and a globally recognized center for medical research, immune health, and scientific collaboration.
Originally known for its healing climate, Davos has attracted patients and physicians since the 19th century. In 1860, the first guesthouses opened their doors to health seekers from across Europe. German physician Dr. Alexander Spengler pioneered a spa concept for lung patients, combining alpine air, rest, and sun exposure. His legacy shaped Davos into a destination renowned for its contribution to respiratory medicine and overall human health.
Today, Davos continues to build on that legacy. It is home to world-leading research institutions such as the Swiss Institute of Allergy and Asthma Research (SIAF), a globally respected center focused on immunology, epithelial barrier function, and chronic inflammatory diseases. Alongside the AO Foundation, the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF), and the World Radiation Center (PMOD/WRC), Davos offers a unique ecosystem of high-altitude, high-impact science.
The city also hosts the World Immune Regulation Meeting (WIRM), an annual international congress that gathers leading experts in immunology, allergy, asthma, and barrier research. WIRM thrives in this extraordinary setting that blends world-class research infrastructure with Davos’ natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Beyond science, Davos is famous for its sports, leisure, and cultural offerings – including the Spengler Cup, the Jakobshorn freestyle scene, the Kirchner Museum, and the World Economic Forum (WEF). This vibrant mix of tradition and innovation makes Davos not just a conference location, but a place of true inspiration – embodying what many call the «Spirit of Davos».
